The
story goes like this: I had never driven anything sportier
than an 81 Chevy Chevette. Carl needed somebody to help him
pick up his 88 MR2 in Ohio, so I went with. I drove it halfway
home, and immediately knew I had to have one.
The week before, I went
with Carl to Chicago to look at an MR2 that was, well, pretty well
worn. Two days after driving Carl's car, I went to Chicago and
bought the hunk of a car that you'll see below (that was a
Friday). Carl put an alternator on the car WHILE I was
settling the deal with the previous owner (that guy couldn't believe
it...it took like ten minutes). I drove it home with a blown
head gasket and frozen brakes.
The next day, Carl fixed
the frozen brakes...he disassemble all four calipers and got them
working. On Sunday, we went out and started taking apart the
car. It was in primer by Wednesday, got painted on Thursday,
and I drove it on Friday. QUICK turn around. It ran fine
even with the headgasket problem, so I drove it like that for about
two years. I ended up fixing the headgasket and selling the
car so I could get my 88 SC.

The poor beast, just as we started stripping
it. The wing was already off at this point. |
|
Umm...there was no metal left back here.... |
|
Carl, welding like a madman. |
|
More welding |
|
Some severe bondo..(with welding underneath) |
|
Somebody had dented the back, and slapped on
like two inches of bondo. We cut some of out, and did it
better. |
|
More bondo and welding. |
|
Sanding... |
|
Primer |
|
And here it is |
|
More |
|
The wheels, even after sandblasting, wouldn't
come clean looking. So we painted them. |
|
And we spruced up the engine compartment. |
